“Tart.” She blurted the correction instead of asking why he’d avoided the question.
“Name calling already? I’m down for that kink although I thought tart was more of a gender-specific—”
“The pastry.” So many words. The man hadn’t said more than two sentences to her in as many years, and now, when she couldn’t talk, couldn’t think, couldn’t plan out what to say, he wanted to chat. “It was a tart.” She pointed to the baker’s box.
“Oh, those look good.” He sat a hip on her client files, sending papers into an unorganized spill. She twitched with the need to straighten the mess. He’d gone from sexy pirate to owning her desk like a displaced billionaire on an entitlement trip. She’d binged on romance novels lately as they were her only escape from witch politics and work, but the man seriously hit every hot-guy role she’d imagined. Until he reached for her tarts.
